Gun’s n’ Roses epic 1993 gig at Eastern Creek Raceway was, for those lucky enough to have made the pilgrimage, something akin to a Woodstock-like experience in terms of its magnitude (it was touted as being the biggest gig in the Southern hemisphere at the time) and the palpable throng of the pumped-up crowd, who were kept hanging in feverish anticipation for nearly 2 hours waiting for the band to appear.

The gig lived up to the hype, but the high point for many was Saul Hudson, aka Slash’s, spine-tingling marathon blues medley, wrapped up with an epic rendition of the theme from The Godfather.

A lot of water and even more Jack Daniels has passed under Slash’s bridge since that night, but with his return to the spotlight in 2010, a world-beating self-titled album boasting collaborations with some of the biggest names in rock- read Ozzie Osborne, Myles Kennedy, Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale, Chris Cornell, Iggy Pop and The Cult’s Ian Astbury- Slash is primed for another tour for the history books with Soundwave 2011. Fingers crossed we'll be graced with another marathon Godfather rendition, and according to reports he isn’t averse to pulling out the odd classic G’n’R number, the likes of Paradise City, and yes, Sweet Child o’ Mine.

Get in the moshpit early.

Slash is a feature artist at Soundwave 2011.
